Merry Christmas from snowy Paris!

November 2009

A late post this month as I come out of a busy couple of weeks of sketching and painting. This illustration for Yoga Journal seems very fitting, especially at this time of year as we all rush to finalise the things we hope to achieve before the year is out.

More for United Airlines this month too. This time for their Milieage Plus Elite Upgrades programme.

October 2009

This month I was asked by Barrie D'Rosario Murphy to create a new
illustration for United's Mileage Plus hotel and car awards. It's
great to be producing new work for them again.

More from October below......

Another very rewarding assignment was a feature illustration for Glow
magazine. The article is about the loss of a pregnancy and how many
women feel utterly alone in their grief after a miscarriage.

Now here are a few of the illustrations I have done recently for a monthly horoscope column for Parents magazine, France.

September 2009

It's been a busy start to the month with the return to work at my new Paris studio and some good projects completed for Madame Figaro (see left) and the September issue of Yoga Journal (see below).

August 2009

Summer vacation... and the month disappeared before I got a chance to post any news!

I did make it to the beach though......

July 2009

The news for me this month is that I've returned to live in Paris after several years living in New Zealand.

Major changes for me and my family as we all adjust to our new life....from a big house to a small apartment, freezing winter to sweltering summer, Wellington to Belleville. We're thrilled with it all!

It seems we couldn't have timed it better as our arrival coincides perfectly with the summer campaign for SeaFrance.

Imagine my surprise when I walked down to my local metro station and was greeted by posters everywhere (see below) - I had no idea!

The posters are even getting about on buses.

June 2009

Earlier this year I was approached to give my spin on a retro-style Hawaiian fabric print for Birkenstock USA.

A sweet idea for their campaign showing two Hula girls peering out from a skirt to the latest Birkenstocks below.

See below for a closer look at the illustration.

May 2009

The "Javalicious" cards have arrived!
Following my "Chocolicious" series created with Galison, we now have a coffee themed "sister" range. Each card comes with a tempting recipe. Must get round to trying them soon,
although lately I've been spending all my spare time sorting through my archives (read below).

I'm finally making sense of the mountains of my artwork stashed haphazardly around the studio. It's quite a revealing process, seeing what worked and what didn't over the years.

One of the nicest "forgotten" finds was this series of ads commissioned by the Helsinki newspaper "Helsingin Sanomat" for a summer advertising campaign many a year ago!

April 2009

ACIS (American Council for International Studies) commissioned me to illustrate their 2010 student travel catalogue. Kor Design (Boston) designed and co-ordinated the project, making the entire process seamless from conception to creation!

And I've just begun a monthly Horoscope series for Parents Magazine (France). Clockwise from top left: Aquarius, Gemini, Sagittarius and Leo.

February 2009

The month is more than half way through - it's been crazy.

At the moment I'm very excited about a new collboration with San Francisco based photographer Claudia Goetzelmann.

The project is only just starting out, but here's a sneek preview.

Sarah Wilkins Happy New Year 2009

January 2009

The new year is here and I hope it is a happy one for everybody.

For me it is a time of extreme weather opposites. While I sit sketching on the beach my clients suffer the bitterly cold temperatures of mid winter!

Enjoying the summer has made it easy to find inspiration for my contribution to a Birkenstock ad campaign with a beach theme though. It's due out in Summer 2009 and I'll add a link then.

December 2008

My bag for Barnes and Noble is now available in stores and online.

Hours were spent on its creation, with designs zapping back and forth around the globe. With the design studio in New York, me in New Zealand and production in Asia there was some serious FTP action going on. The great thing was that with the difference in time zones, we were all working 24 hours a day. I work, while the world sleeps!

You can see the evolution of colour in the sketches to the left, and the end result on the right.

Thanks to the Christmas elves who loaded these totes onto a sleigh for me, so that I could get my hands on the finished item.

November 2008

I'm finally back in my studio and feeling inspired after 5 weeks of travel.

There are quite a few projects on the boil which I'm enjoying getting started on, including these little people on the left. They'll be popping up somewhere in the future.

Also, I've taken a peak at the lovely design alphabet and found a link back to my site. Thanks Jo.

Meanwhile at Mudpuppy you can currently see me featured under the "illustrator spotlight".

It was lovely to see my work mentioned at the ever-informative Partfaliaz site. Begun in February 2007 and based in Paris, Partfaliaz is gathering different graphics-related information that might be useful to creative people. It's all about inspiration.

  Sarah Wilkins Mural Paris

After more than 10 years my mural is still in place in Paris. The Mairie de Paris commissioned this in 1997, and I love knowing a piece of me is always part of the streetscape.

108 rue Jean-Pierre Timbault, 75011 Paris.

  Sarah Wilkins travels

October 2008

As my website finally goes live I have been travelling from my home in New Zealand to London, Paris and on to New York. I'll be back home mid-October, and will always be in touch via email.

So far I have met with my agent in Paris, Caroline, and her faithful "equipe", not to mention my dear friends and their ever-growing families.

I have also just stopped in at Riley Illustration in New York, and have met up with Teresa, Molly and Tsela who support me so expertly. It has been great to meet with clients too !
